3 Things We Love About the New DBS yuu Card & How to Maximise It

DBS you card — the best rewards club ever?

This post was written in collaboration with DBS. While we are financially compensated by them, we nonetheless strive to maintain our editorial integrity and review products with the same objective lens. We are committed to providing the best information in order for you to make personal financial decisions with confidence. You can view our Editorial Guidelines here.

If you’ve been grocery shopping recently, you would have seen the eye-catching blue signs in your local supermarket. There’s a new face in town and it’s called yuu.

It’s touted to be the “Best Rewards Club Ever”. Why? Because it’s free to join, with plenty of perks and rewards, and brings together disparate memberships into one convenient place.

And what’s even better is the new DBS yuu Card! It’s the perfect combi of the new yuu Rewards Club with lots of DBS perks thrown in. Might this be the “Best Rewards Card Ever” as their tagline says?

What’s the yuu Rewards Club?

Chances are, you’re already part of more than a few rewards programmes (I think I easily have 20+). But #firstworldproblems — it’s easy to lose track of which ones you are part of, and usually it’s tough to redeem anything from those one-off memberships, plus you’ve diluted your spending and rewards over the numerous programmes you’re part of.

Sounds familiar? That’s where the yuu Rewards Club comes in. Instead of your garden variety disparate rewards programme, this brand coalition loyalty programme ties together different programmes to help you maximise your dollar and reap the most benefits.

Also, with the yuu Rewards Club, you can access more rewards from popular and well-known partners such as DFI Retail Group (includes Cold Storage, Giant and 7-Eleven), BreadTalk Group (includes Food Junction and Food Republic), PAssion, Mandai Wildlife Group and Singtel.

And then there’s also this cool exclusive partnership with DBS/POSB for the DBS yuu Card and PAssion POSB Debit Card — where you can earn up to 30X yuu Points and 16X yuu Points respectively.

Here’s why we like the yuu Rewards Club and some tips on how to maximise our benefits.

What we like: yuu (You) get more bang for your buck

The DBS yuu Card allows you to enter one of the most generous multi-brand rewards programmes ever. You’ll be able to earn up to 30X yuu Points for your daily spending across several categories such as groceries, dining, health and beauty, telco, and even lifestyle attractions such as the Mandai Zoo.

In total, you’ll get access to privileges at major brands that cover 1,000 places across Singapore, with a broad range of partners including Cold Storage, CS Fresh, Giant, BreadTalk, Toast Box, Food Republic, Singtel and Guardian.

It’s basically suitable for anyone who is looking for a more well-rounded and rewarding card — whether you’re a working professional, family, couple etc. Best of all, you’ll be able to consolidate your spending without diluting your points across a large rewards catalogue, just from your everyday expenditure!

What we like: Simple and fuss-free system

Unless you’re devoted to Excel spreadsheets, keeping track of your various rewards points can be a pain. With the DBS yuu Card, however, there’s no need to waste time tracking your spending and points to maximise your rewards or juggle with other credit cards.

Every dollar that you spend on the DBS yuu Card, you can earn minimally 1 yuu Point but this can go up to 30X yuu Points! To make things even simpler, you can keep track of your points using the handy yuu App. There’s no minimum spend either and no cap for base rewards, making the DBS yuu Card a perfect all-in-one card for loyalty programmes.

At a glance: How the DBS yuu Card stands out

Sadly, we feel it’s unfortunate that many credit cards and debit cards with rewards for spending are quite limited in their, well, rewards and mechanisms.

This is what we’ve experienced as cardholders:

  • You’re stuck with choosing between cashback or rewards instead of both
  • Categories for spending, rewards and rebates are also quite narrow
  • Earnings and rewards can only be redeemed within a specific category
  • Minimum spend for cards are quite high — around $400-$500/month for debit cards and rewards/rebates are capped. Even higher for credit cards

So that’s where the DBS yuu Card and yuu App shine. In addition to spending on the card to get points and track them easily, the yuu App also enables the easy redemption of deals and curated offers with yuu Points earned.

Unlike many other credit cards or even debit cards, there’s no minimum spend* or reward/rebate cap* with the DBS yuu Card, so you can enjoy great rewards without stress!

How to maximise your DBS yuu Card

So how can you get the maximum benefit from your DBS yuu Card?

With the DBS yuu Card, you can enjoy up to 30 times yuu Points, worth 15% cash rebates or more, at over 1,000 outlets until 31 January 2023.

As we said earlier, all retail spending earns you a base of 1x yuu Point. You can supercharge your rewards by 4x yuu Points when you spend at participating yuu merchants.

As part of the launch offer until 31 January 2023, you get even more rewards by:

  • spending on selected products from yuu merchants (up to 2x yuu Points)
  • a minimum S$80 in single recept at DFI Retail Group and BreadTalk Group outlets (up 10x yuu Points, capped at 3 x 800 yuu Points per month)
  • a minimum S$400 spend a month at DFI Retail Group and BreadTalk Group outlets (up to 13x yuu points)

The table below shows you how to take advantage of this:

For new to DBS/POSB card members, you can get S$250 cashback when you apply for a DBS yuu Card with a minimum spend of S$500 in one month and an additional S$10 cashback when you activate by 31 December 2022.

Already a DBS Black Cardmember or new DBS yuu Cardmember? Activate your DBS yuu Card by 31 December 2022 and enjoy S$10 cashback.

On top of this, you get access to numerous exciting rewards that you can redeem off the yuu App with your yuu Points. For example, with 200 yuu Points, you can redeem a delicious Cadbury milk chocolate. A full list of rewards is available on the yuu App!

Bonus: PAssion POSB Debit Card supercharged as well!

Are you a PAssion POSB Debit Card holder? Good news, you can also enjoy the great benefits from the yuu Rewards Club programme!

The yuu Rewards Club replaces TapforMore, meaning that customers with PAssion POSB Debit Card can now earn points for spending in dining, convenience stores and more categories (as opposed to just DFI Retail Group merchants like Cold Storage, CS Fresh, Giant and Guardian). And you can now easily see your rewards balance via the yuu App!

Some current benefits of the PAssion POSB Debit Card illustrate this perfectly. You can take your spouse shopping at Takashimaya and enjoy 1% cashback, use the 1-for-1 deals to take the kids to attractions and entertainment on every 10th of the month, and (until 31st December 2022) benefit from 5% cashback on utility bills and public transport spend.

On top of this, the PAssion POSB Debit Card is like your regular debit card, so you can do stuff like making ATM withdrawals and paying with NETS. It’s like getting banking convenience and rewards in one handy card.
