Online Groceries in Singapore — Which Has The Cheapest Delivery Fees?

Online Grocery Delivery - Masthead

Online grocery shopping was already popular with lazy millennials, but now that Singapore is, once again, in Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), with no dine-in allowed — older folks are starting to convert too.

RedMart was one of the first to offer online groceries in Singapore, but now, all the big players like NTUC FairPrice, Cold Storage, Sheng Siong and even Giant have online stores too.

If you’re struggling to pick one, here’s a comparison of the available online grocers and their delivery fees.

Online Grocery Delivery - List

Online supermarkets in Singapore delivery fees

Delivery fees Min. spend for free delivery
RedMart $3.99 (6-hour slots) OR $5.99 (2-hour slots) $60
NTUC FairPrice $5 (orders below $59) OR $3 (orders below $79) + $3.99 service fee $79 (service fee still applies)
Cold Storage $7 $59

RedMart (via Lazada)

RedMart Delivery fee
Orders below $60 (6-hour timeslot) $3.99
Orders below $60 (2-hour timeslot) $5.99
Orders $60 and up Free

As one of the pioneers on the online grocery scene, RedMart has become quite popular with competitive prices that are comparable to those at, say, NTUC FairPrice.

You can get free delivery if you spend at least $60, which shouldn’t be too difficult if you can consolidate a few weeks’ worth of orders.

Otherwise, delivery fees depend on whether you opt for Standard (2-hour timeslots) or Saver (6-hour timeslots).

The Standard 2-hour timeslot costs $5.99, but during high demand, RedMart may also charge extra (e.g. $1.99) for popular delivery time slots. Which, at time of writing, is practically EVERY time slot.

RedMart has a cheaper Saver delivery option at $3.99. You can only choose either (a) 8am to 2pm, or (b) 2pm to 8pm though. Though not the most convenient, Saver delivery doesn’t incur any surcharge for popular timeslots.

NTUC Fairprice Online (FairPrice On)

NTUC FairPrice Online Delivery fee
Orders below $59  $5 + $3.99 service fee = $8.99
Orders $59 to $78.99 $3 + $3.99 service fee = $6.99
Orders $79 and up $3.99 service fee

Good news: Singapore’s most popular supermarket also allows you to order goods online from their website, FairPrice On.

Not-so-good news: FairPrice has started to charge a $3.99 service fee on all online orders — even if you hit the $79 threshold for free delivery.

That makes our beloved NTUC one of the most expensive online supermarkets to order from. That’s a shame because NTUC FairPrice’s grocery prices are known to be quite competitive.

Additionally, the website says that you may be charged extra depending on the delivery slot you pick. I have no idea how much that could be — at the time of writing I couldn’t get a slot — but we reckon it might be similar to RedMart’s.

Cold Storage Online

Cold Storage Online  Delivery fee
Orders below $59  $7
Orders $59 and up Free

Cold Storage Online has one of the simplest delivery fee pricing structures: It’s $7 for orders below $59; anything more and it’s free. They are also no hidden charges (not yet anyway), which is nice.

That said, it’s known that Cold Storage tends to charge higher prices for certain products. Cost will be a key consideration, but some people continue to shop at Cold Storage because they sell certain premium products you might not find at your regular NTUC FairPrice.

Cold Storage also has a nifty system that lets you “chope” a delivery slot when you start browsing. Once you reach the site, you’ll be prompted to pick a time slot based on your postal code. After choosing a slot, it will be reserved for 30 minutes. You must check out before then or else it’s be released to others in the queue.

Sheng Siong Online (Allforyou)

Sheng Siong Allforyou  Delivery fee
Orders below $100 $6
Orders $100 and up Free

Well, what do you know, Sheng Siong has also jumped on the online grocery delivery bandwagon with their Sheng Siong Allforyou website.

Sheng Siong happens to be one of Singapore’s main budget supermarkets, so you can expect prices to be quite a bit lower, especially for house brand items.

One bugbear is the fact that you only qualify for free delivery if you spend $100 or more, otherwise you have to pay a $6 delivery charge. Given the fact that most people shop at Sheng Siong to save money, this might be a deal breaker.

Another problem is that the site is a bit less search-friendly than most of the others, with products sometimes not appearing if your search term isn’t exactly what they’re looking for.

Giant Online

Giant Online  Delivery fee
Orders below $59  $7
Orders $59 and up Free

Like Sheng Siong, fellow budget supermarket chain Giant also has an online store. Price-wise, they’re one of the cheapest in town — especially if you buy their house brand stuff.

It doesn’t make sense to do your budget grocery shopping on Giant only to be slapped with a $7 delivery fee, so it’s better if you can consolidate $59 worth of purchases to get free delivery.

Like Cold Storage Online (which is part of the same Dairy Farm Group), Giant’s online supermarket allows you to reserve a timeslot for 30 minutes while you shop.

Amazon Fresh

Amazon Fresh  Fees
Prime membership fee $2.99/month
Orders under $60 $5.99 (2-hour same day delivery)
Orders over $60 Free (2-hour same day delivery)

Amazon Fresh is the latest incarnation of Amazon’s grocery delivery service in Singapore. It was formerly known as Amazon Prime Now.

It’s not the most user-friendly online supermarket around, but it has one key benefit — same-day 2-hour delivery. Deliveries happen almost around the clock, from 7am to midnight on most days (shorter hours on weekends).

To qualify for free, fast delivery with Amazon Fresh, though, you need to (a) hit a minimum spend of $60, and (b) be an Amazon Prime member at $2.99/month.

If you’re thinking “hell no” to that, then check out the other options for on-demand grocery delivery right here.

Bonus tips for a successful online groceries experience

Since Singapore’s Circuit Breaker in 2020, we’ve had sufficient time and experience to fine-tune our online grocery shopping strategy. Here are some pro tips for you:

Online Grocery Delivery - Checklist

1. Can’t get a timeslot? Use WhereGotSlots

Local smoke detector company BlazeGuard has thoughtfully put together WhereGotSlots, a super useful tool that scrapes most major online supermarkets (except RedMart) for delivery timeslots.

Just input your postal code and click “check delivery”. It’ll show you which online supermarkets have upcoming timeslots for your area.

2. Use Pandamart, GrabMart or Deliveroo for small orders

Most online supermarkets require a minimum spend of about $60 or more to get free delivery. If you can’t hit that amount, then try using one of these food delivery apps instead.

Foodpanda, GrabFood and Deliveroo all deliver from minimarts and supermarkets on demand, and the minimum order is usually quite small. Orders typically arrive in less than an hour, too, so no need to shell out extra cash for Amazon Prime membership.

3. Check out with a good cashback credit card

There are many credit cards that give you cash back and rebates for online spending or grocery shopping (online shopping included). Here are our favourites:
